Regulatory Compliance in South Africa
Navigating NEMA licensing, DFFE approval, SABS import requirements, and emissions standards for pyrolysis operations.
We Help You Navigate SA Regulations
Setting up a waste processing plant in South Africa requires multiple regulatory approvals. With over 20 years of experience, Jinzhen provides guidance on the entire compliance process — because we've been through it ourselves.
Waste Management License (WML)
DFFE (Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment)
Any entity storing, treating, recycling, or disposing of used oil or waste materials must obtain a Waste Management License. This is governed by the National Environmental Management: Waste Act (NEMWA, 2008).
Requirements
- Basic Assessment or full Scoping & EIA (depending on scale)
- Environmental Impact Assessment by registered professional
- Public participation process
- Detailed waste management plan
How Jinzhen Helps
Our team can guide you through the entire WML application process, including connecting you with registered EIA practitioners.
Atmospheric Emission License (AEL)
Provincial/Municipal Air Quality Management
Required for any facility that releases emissions into the atmosphere. Our YQCL-6W environmental system is designed to exceed these requirements.
Requirements
- Emissions inventory and dispersion modelling
- Proof of Best Available Technology (BAT)
- Monitoring and reporting plan
- Compliance with National Ambient Air Quality Standards
How Jinzhen Helps
The YQCL-6W system achieves ≤10 mg/m³ particulates, ≤50 mg/m³ SO₂, ≤100 mg/m³ NOx — well below most national standards. Our equipment is designed to meet all AEL requirements.
SABS Import Compliance
South African Bureau of Standards
Imported industrial equipment must comply with SABS requirements, including EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) certification for control systems.
Requirements
- EMC Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for electronic/electrical components
- Test reports from ILAC-accredited laboratory
- All labelling in English
- Equipment alignment with international ISO/IEC standards
How Jinzhen Helps
Jinzhen's ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and CE certifications align with SABS requirements. We provide all necessary documentation for import approval.
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
DFFE
Fully enforced since 2021, EPR regulations require lubricant producers to finance waste oil collection and recycling. This creates a state-mandated demand for recycling capacity and potential feedstock supply.
Requirements
- Registration with relevant Producer Responsibility Organisation
- Compliance with waste collection targets
- Reporting on recycling outputs
How Jinzhen Helps
Our waste processing qualifies under the EPR framework, potentially providing access to subsidised feedstock and preferential treatment in government tenders.
